Caucasus with Car – Overview
Ferry across the Black Sea Green Georgia Caucasus Armenia Chernobyl
We traveled to the Caucasus on off road camping summer 2017, together with four other cars from SWES, the Swedish Expedition Society. The Swedes drove through the Baltic and Belarus while we took a ferry from Karlskrona in Sweden to Poland and met the other cars in Chernobyl, Ukraine. There we got a guided tour to Chernobyl and Pripyat. (Chernobyl) Then we drove to Odessa and took a ferry across the Black Sea to Georgia. (ferry).
We visited the capital of Georgia Tbilisi, and Armenia and the capital. But the highlight was to camp off-road in the mountains of the Caucasus.
An important part of our experience is to have time to look at ancient heritage sites, to eat local food and to experience cultures and people in the countries we visit. Elin speaks Russian well, but you can survive with English. We will try to share small stories along the way, and you are welcome to follow us on the journey.
Packing and preparation
Tours like this require good planning and sensible packing. Here we check the tents and prepare for departure. Otto has built a decor for the Land Cruiser with kitchen and water tank behind. All things have their fixed place, at least when we start. We also have a good choice of spare parts and tools, in case.
Return
The return was via Turkey, Greece, Albania, Croatia, Germany.
In total, the trip was 9,000 km.
